The old Alfaguara forest nursery has recently been reclaimed as an Arboretum and botanical route, and contains a large sample of the rich biodiversity to be found in the Sierra de Huétor.

Composed of evergreen conifers and deciduous trees, the stars of the Arboretum are the Spanish firs and several hundred-year-old cedars; the latter will impress visitors with their enormous size, standing more than 35 metres high and almost 3 metres in diameter. The presence of deciduous trees like cherry, hawthorn, elm, maple and poplar, among many others, makes this trail especially attractive in autumn, when the leaves of these trees take on spectacular hues. And as if this were not enough, the Alfaguara Arboretum is a real refuge for birds, including blackbirds, greenfinches, crossbills and kinglets, finding a real haven here.
