The poet, Federico García Lorca, is believed to have been murdered in Alfacar on 18 August 1936, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. For this reason, a park was built to honour his memory and that of so many other victims of the war.

The park is located in the upper part of the town, just a few metres from the Fuente Grande spring. It is surrounded by pine forests and the Alfaguara mountain range.

The park was built in 1986 and equipped with various fountains, trails and paths. There are also various fragments from his poems on the wall surrounding the main square.

Inside the park, following the path on the left as you enter, you will find a monolith next to the olive tree where the poet is believed to have been shot.

An evening event is held every year to mark the date on which the poet died. It takes place on the 18th of August and includes a concert and recital of Lorca’s writings.
