This architectural feature is typical of the Alpujarra region. The area’s roots are essentially Moorish in origin.
The ‘tinaos‘ were intended to create covered spaces that were both private and public in nature, by placing a structure of beams over the street to cover the area. In this way, a covered area was created on the lower part and a room or dwelling on the upper part.
This architectural solution consisted of placing beams made from the trunks of local trees on which the alfajías, which are slats of the same tree placed perpendicularly on top of the beams, were then placed.
